The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has approved 30 freight-rail improvement projects, and the State Transportation Commission allocated $55 million in state funding to support these projects.
The funding comes from the state’s Rail Transportation Assistance Program and the Rail Freight Assistance Program.
CSX received the largest grant of $13.1 million to rehabilitate the 25th Street viaduct in Philadelphia County. Other major grant recipients include Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway, which received $5.8 million to rehabilitate six bridges in Allegheny, Washington, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties, and NorthPoint Development LLC, which received $3.8 million to add 13,350 feet of new track at the Kinder Morgan terminal rail yard in Bucks County.
