Wisconsin has distributed more than $186.2 million in third-quarter transportation aid payments to counties and municipalities to support local road maintenance, repairs, and highway operations across the state.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) issued the July 6 payments through the state’s General Transportation Aids, Connecting Highway Aids, and Expressway Policing Aids programs. The funding supports the construction, maintenance, and operation of local roads and designated state highways under local jurisdiction.
The quarterly distribution includes $176.7 million in General Transportation Aids for local governments, $4.3 million in Connecting Highway Aids for 116 municipalities, and $5.3 million in Expressway Policing Aids for Milwaukee County. The funding is provided through Wisconsin’s 2025–27 Biennial Budget, which increased transportation aid for local governments.
For 2026, Wisconsin will provide more than $570 million through the General Transportation Aids program. Municipalities will receive an additional $33.2 million over fiscal years 2025–27, while counties will receive nearly $10 million more during the same period. Local transportation programs account for nearly one-third of the state’s transportation budget.
General Transportation Aids help local governments construct, maintain, and operate roads and streets. Connecting Highway Aids reimburse municipalities for maintaining designated state highways within their boundaries, while Expressway Policing Aids support expressway patrol operations in Milwaukee County.
