The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has distributed $145.8 million in fourth-quarter transportation aid to local governments for road maintenance and infrastructure improvements. The payments support counties and municipalities through the General Transportation, Connecting Highway, and Expressway Policing Aid programs.

The funding comes from the 2023–25 Biennial Budget and completes $540 million in total 2025 payments. The state increased allocations to provide record support for local transportation programs. The funds help cities, towns, and counties repair and operate roads under local control, maintain connecting highways, and support policing on Milwaukee County expressways.

The 2025–27 Biennial Budget adds another $1.1 billion for transportation. It increases General Transportation Aid by three percent each year and funds key programs, including $333 million for highway rehabilitation and $100 million for local road improvements.

WisDOT stated that local roads are vital to Wisconsin’s economy and daily travel, serving as the first and last mile for most drivers.
