The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has distributed $117.6 million in funding to counties and municipalities for local road improvements across the state. The funding represents the second quarterly payment for 2026 under state transportation aid programs.

The project scope includes construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of local roads and connecting highways. The funding will also support traffic control, roadway operations, and expressway policing services.

The total project cost for this funding round is over $117 million. The funding includes $108 million through General Transportation Aids (GTA), $4 million through Connecting Highway Aids (CHA), and $5 million through Expressway Policing Aids (EPA).

WisDOT administers the funding, while local governments, municipalities, and county agencies implement projects based on regional infrastructure needs. Eligible municipalities receive CHA funding for maintaining state highways within local jurisdictions, while Milwaukee County receives EPA funding for expressway policing.

WisDOT issued the second-quarter payments in April 2026. Local governments will use the funds throughout the year, with additional quarterly and scheduled payments continuing under the program.

The funding will improve road conditions, enhance safety, and support transportation connectivity across Wisconsin. The program will benefit residents, businesses, and freight movement by maintaining and upgrading critical local infrastructure.
