West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced over $34.6 million in funding for broadband infrastructure projects across 10 counties. The funding will support the deployment of approximately 362 miles of fiber-optic cable to expand high-speed internet access to 2,897 unserved or underserved locations.

The projects are funded through the American Rescue Plan’s State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund and Capital Projects Fund via the state’s Line Extension Advancement and Development (LEAD) program. Five internet service providers have been selected to carry out the infrastructure deployments:

  • Citynet: $2,779,895 for projects in Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, and Lewis counties
  • Comcast: $7,744,946 for Jackson, Mason, and Putnam counties
  • Digital Connections, Inc. (Prodigi): $10,333,384 for Preston County
  • Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Telephone: $9,920,660 for Pendleton County
  • Micrologic: $3,822,632 for Grant County

The initiative is part of West Virginia’s broader effort to improve statewide broadband access and connectivity, particularly in rural areas with limited service. The LEAD program is designed to support last-mile infrastructure extensions.
