The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1.73 billion in BUILD grants. The funding will support 127 transportation projects across 52 states, territories, and the District of Columbia. The projects include improvements to roads, bridges, transit systems, rail networks, ports, airports, and truck parking facilities.
Road and bridge projects received $1.3 billion, accounting for about 77 percent of the total funding. The grant includes $24 million for the North Dakota Department of Transportation to rehabilitate pavement, address roadway buckling, and install 10 miles of high-tension cable guardrails along Interstate 94. USDOT also allocated $62 million for truck parking projects in Kentucky, Wyoming, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Illinois. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet received $25 million to add truck parking spaces at seven rest areas on four major freight corridors.
Port projects secured $136.8 million in BUILD funding, including $8.5 million to The Alaska Railroad Corporation to widen the Port of Seward’s freight dock by 300 feet. Transit agencies received $169.9 million, including $14.7 million for upgrades at three Milwaukee County Transit System maintenance facilities. Rail projects received $87.7 million, with $24.3 million supporting rail improvements at the Port of Corpus Christi Inland Port. USDOT also awarded more than $11 million for roadway improvements at airports in Arizona and Louisiana.
USDOT received nearly 1,200 eligible applications requesting more than $14.5 billion. The selected projects will improve transportation safety, expand freight capacity, and strengthen passenger and cargo movement across the country.
