The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $22 million to expand high-speed internet service in Socorro, Torrance, and Valencia counties in New Mexico. The funding, delivered through USDA’s Rural Development program, will provide broadband access to 783 residents, 14 businesses, and 40 farms across the three-county region.
New Mexico’s congressional delegation announced the investment, highlighting the role of broadband in supporting rural economies and access to essential services. Limited connectivity in central New Mexico has hindered opportunities for distance learning, telemedicine, and business growth.
The project is part of ongoing federal efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps in rural areas by extending reliable internet to underserved communities.
