Uber Technologies plans to invest more than $100 million to develop fast-charging hubs dedicated to autonomous vehicle fleets in the United States.

The investment will fund direct-current fast-charging stations at autonomous depots and selected urban locations. Initial construction will begin in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Dallas. Uber expects additional US cities to follow as robotaxi operations expand.

The company will use corporate capital to cover site development, charging equipment, grid connections, and related infrastructure costs. The charging hubs will support high vehicle utilization rates required for commercial autonomous services.

Uber will pair the infrastructure buildout with utilization guarantee agreements with charging network operators. These agreements aim to accelerate charger deployment by ensuring baseline demand. Partners include EVgo in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Boston, along with operators in the United Kingdom, France, and Spain. Uber expects the combined strategy to support the rollout of more than 1,000 chargers globally.

The charging hubs will support autonomous fleets operated through partnerships with technology and vehicle developers, including Waymo and other autonomous vehicle suppliers. Uber currently operates robotaxi services in several US cities and internationally, with further expansion planned through 2026.
