Sound Transit (the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority) has commenced operations on its 3.41-mile-long Downtown Redmond Link Extension in Washington state.

The extension adds two new stations—Marymoor Village and Downtown Redmond—to the growing light rail transit (LRT) network. The project also includes the construction of a 1,400-space parking facility at Marymoor Village.

This extension forms part of the agency’s 2 Line and is the first light rail segment completed under the Sound Transit 3 (ST3) ballot measure proposing an expansion of the regional public transit system, which was approved by voters in 2016. The project, completed on schedule and within its $1.5 billion budget, marks the fourth light rail expansion in the past 18 months, further expanding Sound Transit’s network across the region.

Two further extensions are expected to open within the next year, including the final portion of the 2 Line and an extension of the 1 Line to Federal Way.
