Skycharger has been awarded a lease to develop a 24-port electric vehicle (EV) fast charging hub at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the lease agreement on June 10, following earlier approval by the SFO Airport Commission in April.
The EV Hub will feature 400 kW direct current fast chargers to serve rideshare drivers, airport customers, and the general public. The project is designed to support California’s Clean Miles Standard, which mandates that 90% of Uber and Lyft vehicle miles be electric by 2030.
The hub will be developed in partnership with Burns & McDonnell as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. Kempower will supply the charging hardware, including 12 Power Cabinets and 24 Satellite dispensers with dynamic power distribution capabilities. The facility will also include a convenience store.
Skycharger estimates that the facility will help avoid over 200,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions in its first ten years of operation. The company recently received a $10 million grant from the California Energy Commission to develop electric truck stops in Southern California.
