Skanska secured a contract from the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) for the $220 million Phase Three painting and rehabilitation of the Commodore Barry Bridge. This project aims to restore the bridge and improve the travel experience for users traveling between Chester, Pennsylvania, and Bridgeport, New Jersey.

Skanska’s scope of work includes blasting, cleaning, and repainting the cantilever truss, steel barriers, and overhead gantries. The team will also repair and strengthen various structural components, such as truss members, stringers, bearings, vibration absorbers, and wind pins. Additionally, they will install temporary jacking systems.

Other tasks involve concrete deck repairs, applying protective coatings, performing spall repairs on piers and pier caps, and replacing 14,000 linear feet of electrical conduit and wiring. The crews will also replace the existing movable barrier and barrier machine.

Construction is set to begin in December 2024, with the final completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
