Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) will begin construction in June 2025 on a two-year, $180 million terminal expansion aimed at doubling passenger space and improving amenities. The project will add 80,000 square feet of new terminal space, seven jet bridges, and over 6,000 square feet of dining and retail concessions, while keeping the airport operational throughout construction.

The Redmond City Council approved $98 million in funding for the terminal expansion and $6.5 million for final design work. The remaining funds will come from a mix of federal, state, and airport-generated sources. These include $20 million from the Federal Airport Improvement Program, $18 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, $7 million from the Airport Terminals Program under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, $10 million from Connect Oregon, $90 million in revenue-backed bonds, and $35 million from airport cash reserves. Airlines and airport users will also contribute through rates, charges, and non-aeronautical revenues such as parking and concessions. No local or county tax funds will be used.

The new terminal design reflects the Central Oregon landscape through wood, stone, and natural textures, while integrating sustainability measures such as energy-efficient lighting, upgraded HVAC systems, and 315 solar panels. The expansion also includes more seating with built-in charging stations, 25 additional restrooms, a companion care restroom, a service animal relief area, an upgraded public address system, and expanded public art.

Skanska USA will serve as the general contractor for the project, collaborating with RS&H, Hennebery Eddy Architects, and Morrison-Maierle on design and engineering aspects.

The construction is scheduled for completion in early 2028.
