The Port of San Diego has advanced plans for a 70-stall electric truck charging hub near the National City Marine Terminal. The Board of Port Commissioners certified the project’s final environmental impact report and authorized a coastal development permit.
Skycharger LLC plans to develop and operate the 4.8-acre facility at 19th Street and Tidelands Avenue. The hub will include 70 charging ports for electric trucks serving the Port’s two marine cargo terminals. Plans also include a 1,719-kW solar array and a 1.9 MW/7.8 MWh battery storage system.
The Port selected Skycharger through a competitive process in 2024. The proposed lease includes an initial 20-year term with a five-year extension option. Skycharger would pay annual rent starting at $250,000, along with additional rent based on gross sales. The company would also contribute $150,000 annually toward community benefits.
Separately, the Board authorized staff to seek $15.5 million in state funding for two National City infrastructure projects. The funding includes $8.8 million for the Marina Way Realignment and $6.7 million for a BNSF rail connector between the National City Marine Terminal and National City Yard.
