PennDOT has committed $100 million in federal funding to expand public EV charging across Pennsylvania under the Community Charging phase of NEVI.
The agency will release funding by region, starting in southeastern Pennsylvania. The first round makes approximately $34 million available in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Local transportation planning agencies will prioritize sites, and any publicly accessible location in the region may apply.
The program funds DC fast charging stations in towns and cities rather than along highway corridors. NEVI covers up to 80% of eligible project costs through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Private developers must fund the remaining share. Each station must operate 24/7, provide open-access payment options, and install at least four charging ports delivering 150 kilowatts simultaneously. Sites must include both CCS and NACS connectors.
Pennsylvania has already committed $54 million in NEVI funding to public charging projects. Developers have built or begun construction on 29 stations totaling approximately $17 million. Another 54 stations remain in development.
PennDOT plans additional community charging rounds in western Pennsylvania in April–May 2026, followed by eastern and central regions in August–September 2026. The agency will also announce awards under a separate NEVI corridor funding round focused on major roadways.
