New York State has opened applications for $425 million in water infrastructure grants. The funding will support drinking water, wastewater, and sewer system upgrades across the state.
The funding is available through the Water Infrastructure Improvement Grant Program and the Intermunicipal Water Infrastructure Grant Program. The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) will administer both programs. Local governments and public authorities are eligible to apply.
The state has reserved $127.5 million for lead service line identification and replacement projects. Funding will also support drinking water systems addressing emerging contaminants. In addition, the program will help small, rural, and disadvantaged communities upgrade wastewater and sewer infrastructure.
The grants form part of New York’s $3.75 billion water infrastructure investment plan. State officials have committed the funding to help communities modernize aging systems and improve water quality while limiting costs for local ratepayers.
The state has invested more than $10 billion in water infrastructure since 2017. Separately, another $78 million remains available through water quality improvement and stormwater planning grant programs administered by the Department of Environmental Conservation.
