New York State has advanced four infrastructure improvement projects totaling $78 million along the Thruway system across the Capital Region, Central New York, and the Finger Lakes. The projects focus on pavement rehabilitation and safety upgrades on key sections of Interstate 90 and Interstate 87.
The project scope includes full and partial-depth pavement repairs, milling and resurfacing, bridge joint replacements, drainage upgrades, and installation of new guiderail and roadway striping.
The total investment amounts to $78 million. Funding is supported through the Thruway Authority. Contractors include Callanan Industries, Inc., Heidelberg Materials Northeast, LLC, and Rifenburg Construction, Inc., all selected through competitive bidding processes.
All four projects are currently underway. Three projects—located in Albany County, Ulster County, and Madison County—are expected to be completed by fall 2026. The Ontario County project is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
The projects cover more than 180 lane miles of highway segments that carry significant daily traffic volumes. Improvements are expected to enhance roadway durability, reduce maintenance needs, and improve safety for motorists across major commuter and freight corridors.
