Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport has released a long-term master plan outlining major infrastructure expansions to meet projected passenger growth.

The plan includes construction of a second terminal, addition of 10 to 15 new gates, roadway upgrades, and expanded parking capacity. It also proposes expansion of terminal facilities, including ticketing, security screening, and baggage claim areas. The airport expects passenger demand to reach up to 9.7 million departing passengers annually within the next decade. Current infrastructure will require expansion to accommodate this growth.

The plan also includes redevelopment of the South Campus. The airport will repurpose the site for cargo operations, aircraft maintenance, hangars, and other aviation-related uses. The cost is estimated at $3.6 million. The airport will fund future infrastructure projects through airport revenues and airline agreements.

The airport has submitted the plan to the Federal Aviation Administration and is undergoing review for final approval. Several related projects are already underway. These include an $84.5 million express shuttle connector road, a $27.1 million runway rehabilitation project, expansion of baggage screening capacity, and construction of additional parking.

The expansion will improve capacity, reduce congestion, and support regional air connectivity. It will also support economic activity, tourism, and job growth across southeast Louisiana.
