Nebraska Completes $47.8 Million US-30 Expansion in Grand Island

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the City of Grand Island held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark completion of the $47.8 million U.S. Highway 30 Grand Island West project. The four-lane expressway will open to traffic on November 5.

Construction began in April 2024 to expand a 3.5-mile section of US-30 west of Grand Island, improving safety, reducing congestion, and increasing regional mobility. The project also realigned North Road and Stolley Park Road to intersect the new highway perpendicularly, improving connectivity and traffic flow.

Funding came from the Build Nebraska Act and the Nebraska Transportation Infrastructure Bank, with the City of Grand Island contributing a 20 percent cost share.

NDOT said the new expressway enhances freight movement and commuter access while supporting future economic growth on the city’s west side.
