Philadelphia has reopened the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Bridge after completing a $20 million, two-year rehabilitation project. The 700-foot bridge spans the Schuylkill River and serves as a key link between West Philadelphia and Center City.

The project replaced the aging deck, rehabilitated steel girders and piers, and installed a new concrete deck, barriers, railings, and lighting. Crews also upgraded nearby roadways with ADA-compliant curb ramps, crosswalks, and new lighting.

The updated bridge now includes three vehicle lanes and a 10.5-foot shared-use path connecting to the MLK Drive Trail. Funding came from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bridge Formula Program.
