Memphis International Airport (MEM) has begun demolition of Concourse A as part of its $700 million Terminal Modernization and Seismic Program—the largest capital improvement project in the airport’s history. The Concourse A demolition, which began this year, is expected to be completed by late 2025 or early 2026.

Originally built in 1974, Concourse A has remained unused since airport operations were consolidated into Concourse B in 2022. The demolition will make way for a new administration building and baggage handling system. The broader modernization effort spans seven planned phases, with construction expected to continue through 2030.

The project aims to enhance terminal infrastructure, improve seismic resilience, and upgrade passenger amenities, including parking systems and operational flow.

Concourse C remains available as a contingency space for security screening or rental car operations during construction.
