The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority has been awarded $50.6 million in federal funding for upgrades at Memphis International Airport (MEM). The package includes four separate grants supported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Community Project Funding.

Key awards include:

  • $5 million (Community Project Funding, FY24): To design and build a Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) facility, extending equipment life and ensuring safe winter operations.
  • $21 million (Airport Infrastructure Grant, FY25): To continue Phase 6 of MEM’s terminal modernization program, including rehabilitation of passenger circulation areas, ticketing, security checkpoints, and building systems.
  • $19.6 million (Airport Improvement Program, FY25): To reconstruct terminal systems, implement seismic sustainability upgrades, rehabilitate taxiways, and replace 91 airfield signs and markings.

The upgrades are expected to enhance passenger throughput, extend the life of critical infrastructure, and maintain efficient operations. The funding was drawn from FAA entitlement grants under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) as well as congressional Community Project Funding.
