The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has allocated $371.5 million to complete the redevelopment of the Arborway Bus Maintenance Facility in Boston. The funding, included in the FY2027–2031 Capital Investment Plan, will cover remaining design and construction costs.

The project will deliver a new maintenance and operations facility designed to support battery-electric buses alongside hybrid vehicles. The expanded site will increase fleet capacity and improve operational efficiency for bus services across southern Boston neighborhoods.

The scope includes construction of a larger facility adjacent to the existing Arborway garage near Forest Hills. After commissioning the new facility, the agency will decommission and demolish the current structure. The cleared site will support future redevelopment, including potential housing and mixed-use uses.

The Commonwealth Transportation Fund will finance the project. The MBTA will lead implementation as part of its broader system-wide bus modernization strategy.
