The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) has approved the Texas Gulflink LLC (TGL) deepwater port project, granting Sentinel Midstream, LLC the authority to own, build, and operate the facility for exporting domestically produced crude oil. This decision aligns with President Donald Trump’s Unleashing American Energy Executive Order, signed on January 20, 2025.
The deepwater port will be located about 26.6 nautical miles off the coast of Brazoria County, Texas, with a shoreside support facility in Freeport Harbor. The project will also use dock space at Port Freeport’s public docks in Freeport, Texas.
This initiative will expand production and allow U.S. companies to compete globally, strengthening energy security, increasing national revenue, and lowering costs for consumers.
MARAD and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) received TGL’s application for a deepwater port license on May 30, 2019. In coordination with other federal agencies, they completed the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), publishing it on July 5, 2024.
