LA Metro has announced that the A Line light rail service will be extended eastward to Pomona, with the new section set to open in September 2025. The extension will introduce four new stations located in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex, and Pomona North.

The project is designed to support more sustainable and accessible travel options across the region by offering direct, frequent light rail services to communities in the eastern San Gabriel Valley. It will also facilitate intermodal connections with local bus services and with the Metrolink commuter rail network.

Metro plans to run trains every 8 minutes during peak periods. Standard Metro fare levels, starting at $1.75, will be charged. The fare structure also includes free or discounted travel options for eligible K–12 students, college students, older adults, and low-income riders.

The A Line extension is part of a broader, ongoing investment in sustainable transport infrastructure within Los Angeles County, aligning with Metro’s Twenty-Eight by ’28 initiative, designed to enhance regional transit in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The estimated cost of the 9.09-mile-long segment from Glendora to Pomona is approximately $1.5 billion.
