Jacobs received a contract to provide construction management for the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility program at the Port of Long Beach. The project is part of the port’s $2.2 billion capital program to improve cargo movement efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and support economic growth.
The Pier B program will expand the existing rail yard from 82 acres to 171 acres, more than tripling on-dock rail capacity to handle up to 4.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually. The facility is expected to reduce truck traffic, lower emissions, and improve air quality in surrounding communities.
Construction will be completed in multiple phases, with final completion targeted for 2032. The project is expected to create more than 1,000 local jobs and contribute to local health and environmental initiatives. Jacobs will manage ten construction contracts for the program.
