Hitachi Rail has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Clever Devices, a US-based provider of intelligent transportation systems. The transaction will expand Hitachi Rail’s capabilities in digital mobility and public transit technology.
The acquisition involves integrating Clever Devices’ fleet management and passenger information systems with Hitachi Rail’s HMAX Mobility platform. The combined offering will support real-time operations, asset management, and multimodal transport coordination across rail and bus networks.
The transaction is currently pending regulatory approvals and is expected to close later in 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed. Following completion, Hitachi Rail will integrate the business into its digital mobility portfolio and expand its presence in North America.
The acquisition supports broader efforts to digitize public transport systems, improve operational efficiency, and enable integrated multimodal mobility. The combined platform will provide transit agencies with tools to optimize service performance, enhance passenger information systems, and manage infrastructure more effectively.
