Hitachi Energy Plans $528 Million Transformer Factory in Mississippi

Hitachi Energy plans to invest $528 million in a transformer factory in Gallman, Mississippi. The company expects to begin construction in late 2026 and start production in 2029, and estimates that the project will create more than 700 jobs.

The new factory will stand about 6.5 miles from Hitachi Energy’s existing plant in Crystal Springs. It will exceed twice the size of that plant and more than double the company’s transformer production capacity in the area. The Gallman facility will make small and medium-sized power transformers ranging from 10 MVA to 160 MVA, for voltages up to 230 kV.

The Mississippi project forms part of Hitachi Energy’s approximately $1.5 billion U.S. manufacturing expansion program. The company is also expanding facilities in Virginia, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.
