Gordie Howe International Bridge to Open July 27

The Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, will open on July 27 after Canada, Michigan, and the US government reached an agreement on toll governance and revenue sharing.

The six-lane, 2.4-kilometer bridge cost approximately $4.5 billion to build. Canada financed the project, which began construction in 2018. Under the agreement, Canada and the United States will establish a 15-year regional economic development fund financed through a portion of bridge operating profits. The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority will also coordinate with US authorities on certain toll adjustments.

The bridge will provide an additional crossing for passenger and commercial traffic along the Windsor-Detroit corridor, one of North America’s busiest trade gateways.
