The Gordie Howe International Bridge is nearing completion and is expected to open in early 2026. The crossing will allow vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists to travel between Detroit and Windsor, marking the first Michigan–Canada bridge to include walking and biking access.

Construction began in 2018 and has reached about 98% completion. The six-lane bridge will carry three lanes of traffic in each direction and connect Interstate 75 in Michigan to Ontario’s Highway 401 through new port-of-entry facilities.

The project includes a multiuse path separated from vehicle traffic. The bridge also aims to reduce congestion at the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel by providing additional cross-border capacity.

The project cost totals about $4.4 billion. The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority is overseeing delivery. Canada financed construction and will recover costs through toll revenues and long-term availability payments tied to operations and maintenance.
