The City of Fort Worth will receive more than $351 million in federal funding for water and solid waste infrastructure projects. The funding includes a $347 million loan through the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act program and a $4.8 million grant from the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling program.
Fort Worth will use the WIFIA loan to upgrade wastewater collection and treatment systems and expand water reuse capacity. The project includes construction of a new water reclamation facility designed to treat wastewater for industrial and irrigation reuse.
The SWIFR grant will fund the city’s Reuse Program and Recycling Enhancement Project. The initiative will support appliance, furniture, building material, and electronics collection at designated drop-off locations.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is providing the funding through its WIFIA and SWIFR programs. The projects will support wastewater treatment capacity and materials recovery services for Fort Worth’s growing population.
