The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced over $332 million in grants to modernize airports across 32 states through the Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program. This funding, part of the $25 billion allocated under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to improve airport and air traffic control infrastructure over five years.
The grants will support airport planning, sustainability, terminal expansions, baggage system upgrades, runway safety enhancements, and noise reduction projects.
Highlights of the funding include:
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Arizona: $84.3 million to build a new 2,100-foot Taxiway U and bridge for increased operations.
- Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport, Alaska: $18.8 million to expand the terminal and rehabilitate the snow removal equipment storage building.
- Tallahassee International Airport, Florida: $6.7 million to construct new taxiways, upgrade lighting, and rehabilitate existing infrastructure for safety.
- Hector International Airport, North Dakota: $3.9 million to add four new gates for increased passenger capacity.
- Telluride Regional Airport, Colorado: $2.6 million to install navigation aids, build a new South Apron, and improve taxiways.
- Ruston Regional Airport, Louisiana: $324,000 to expand the Southeast Apron to meet FAA standards.
- Geraldine Airport, Montana: $177,840 to reseal runways and acquire land to protect approaches.
