Five airports across Maine will receive a total of $1,326,261 in federal funding through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Fiscal Year 2025 Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program. The grants, made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), will support airfield upgrades and facility improvements aimed at enhancing safety, capacity, and long-term operational sustainability.

The following projects have been awarded funding:

  • Belfast Municipal Airport: $389,500 to construct a new double pump fuel facility to improve operational efficiency and revenue generation.
  • Bethel Regional Airport: $340,100 to update the airport master plan and construct a 500-foot taxi lane for future hangar access.
  • Millinocket Municipal Airport: $317,970 to extend Taxiway D by 670 feet to serve a new hangar development area.
  • Eastport Municipal Airport: $150,821 to rehabilitate a 1,575-square-foot parking lot to extend its useful life.
  • Central Maine Regional Airport: $127,870 to reconstruct Taxiway A edge lighting with LED systems and upgrade the lighting systems for Runway 15/33.

The improvements are expected to enhance both general aviation and emergency medical service access across the state, particularly for rural communities.
