The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has awarded over $17.3 million in state grants for 15 local bridge replacement projects through the State Local Bridge Program. The program, which provides 50% of project costs for municipally owned bridges, aims to keep local infrastructure in good condition and support municipal budgets.
Under this cost-sharing initiative, municipalities are responsible for managing project design and construction, while CTDOT provides oversight and technical guidance. The approved grants support bridge replacements across 11 municipalities, including Cheshire, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Sharon, Southbury, Stafford, Stamford, and Waterbury.
Key awards include:
- $4,028,200 for Brown Street over Great Brook in Waterbury
- $2,452,800 for Greenbush Road over Little River in Redding
- $1,434,500 for Old Long Ridge Road over East Branch Mianus River in Stamford
- Four additional bridges in Redding receiving over $1 million each
The State Local Bridge Program was established in 1984 and has since awarded approximately $162 million to support locally owned bridges across Connecticut. There are about 4,200 local bridges and culverts on municipally maintained roads throughout the state.
