Florida lawmakers have approved $1.7 billion in new funding to accelerate three major road projects in Central Florida under the state’s Moving Florida Forward initiative. The projects aim to reduce congestion along the Interstate 4 corridor and improve regional connectivity in Osceola and Polk Counties.

The funding will support construction of:

  • Two express lanes in each direction on a 2.6-mile stretch from east of World Drive to east of U.S. 192
  • Two express lanes in each direction on a 3.1-mile stretch from east of County Road 532 to west of World Drive
  • A new 3.5-mile Poinciana Connector linking State Road 429 to Osceola Polk Line Road and I-4

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will oversee project implementation. The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is also advancing related road improvements to extend the Poinciana Parkway and connect it to County Road 532, supporting future linkages to the I-4 corridor.

With this funding, originally planned for FY2026, FDOT can begin construction earlier than scheduled. Construction on surrounding roads is expected to begin in early 2026.

Once completed, the projects will help create a continuous express lane system from Seminole County to U.S. 27 in Polk County. The improvements are expected to ease traffic in high-growth areas like Poinciana and improve mobility for regional commuters and tourists.
