Palm Springs City Council has unanimously approved a conceptual master plan for Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), enabling a major expansion designed to double passenger capacity by 2042.
The first phase includes construction of seven new gates, a Federal Inspection Station for international service, a new rental car center, and an expanded baggage claim area.
An environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) will begin next, with a timeline of 12 to 18 months. Detailed design work and financial planning will follow. If milestones are met, construction is expected to begin by 2027 or 2028, with initial upgrades operational by the early 2030s.
PSP served over 3.2 million passengers in 2024. The master plan is designed to accommodate up to 6.4 million by 2042 and was shaped through extensive community engagement, including more than 40 stakeholder meetings and three major public open houses.
