Brightspeed has acquired 235 miles of fiber assets from Cincinnati Communications LLC to expand its broadband network in Butler and Hamilton counties, Ohio. The acquired dark fiber infrastructure is adjacent to Brightspeed’s existing builds in Mason, Ohio, and Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and will allow the company to reach an additional 69,500 locations.
The acquisition supports Brightspeed’s broader goal of reaching over 420,000 fiber-enabled locations across Ohio. The company currently serves more than 200,000 homes and businesses in the state and is actively building new fiber networks in Lima, Warren, and other communities.
Brightspeed has also received $13.8 million in funding from the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant (ORBEG) program. The program is supported by the American Rescue Plan Act, the Broadband Expansion Authority, and BroadbandOhio, and will enable the company to extend its fiber network by over 8,300 locations in rural and underserved areas.
This acquisition strengthens Brightspeed’s infrastructure in a key growth region and accelerates deployment timelines by leveraging existing dark fiber routes rather than building new lines from the ground up.
