The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced a public-private partnership with Cheatham County and Ingram Marine Group to develop a new inland river port in Ashland City. The $33 million Ashland City River Port project will support multimodal freight movement and regional economic growth.

Located on a 40-acre site at mile marker 162 of the Cumberland River, the project includes a $30 million inland port funded by Ingram Marine Group and a $3 million pier financed by TDOT using state multimodal infrastructure funds. Phase 1 construction, expected to begin in summer 2025, will include a fixed dock, multi-commodity warehouse, and site improvements.

The facility is designed to move dry bulk goods such as cement, rebar, aluminum, and rubber. With access to nearby Interstates 40 and 65, as well as potential rail connectivity via Nashville Western Railroad and CSX, the port aims to reduce truck congestion and enhance supply chain efficiency.

The project forms part of the Cheatham County Industrial Park and is expected to generate local jobs and tax revenue. Officials highlighted the port’s low-traffic waterway location and the environmental benefits of barge-based freight transport.
