Connecticut has selected AmpUp’s Adapt & Earn managed charging program for statewide expansion following the successful completion of an 18-month pilot. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) selected the project as the only initiative among four pilots in the first cycle of the state’s Innovative Energy Solutions Program to advance to full-scale deployment.
PURA has invited AmpUp and Connecticut’s electric utilities to jointly develop a statewide program for public and shared EV charging infrastructure. The program will enable managed charging at workplaces, multifamily properties, transit stations, campuses, and fleet facilities by temporarily shifting charging away from periods of peak electricity demand.
AmpUp conducted the pilot in partnership with Eversource Energy. The project enrolled approximately 1,000 charging ports across nearly 200 locations representing eight commercial customer segments. The pilot reduced charging during periods of peak demand, lowering electricity costs while improving grid flexibility. Drivers received incentives through the AmpUp platform without requiring additional hardware, vehicle telematics, or advance enrollment.
Independent evaluation found that 91 percent of participating drivers experienced no inconvenience during managed charging events, while 83 percent indicated they would participate again. The project also directed 42 percent of new charging installation funding to environmental justice communities. PURA’s approval clears the way for the statewide program design, with implementation to proceed in partnership with Connecticut’s electric utilities.
