The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) (branded as Metro) has awarded AECOM a contract to lead the final design of the East San Fernando Valley light rail transit (ESFV LRT) project. The new line will provide improved transit connectivity in one of the busiest corridors in the Los Angeles region.
The ESFV LRT project will span nine miles and will cover 14 stations, running along Van Nuys Boulevard between the Metro G Line (Orange) station in Van Nuys and the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station. The rail system is expected to reduce congestion and enhance mobility for thousands of daily commuters.
As the lead designer, AECOM will be responsible for completing the project’s final design, including engineering, systems integration, and preparations for construction. The project is part of Metro’s ambitious efforts to expand sustainable and efficient public transportation options in the Los Angeles area.
The ESFV LRT project is expected to begin major construction phases in the coming years, with an anticipated start of service before the 2030 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
