The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced more than $1.6 billion in emergency relief funding to repair roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure damaged by natural disasters. The funding will support recovery efforts across 34 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

North Carolina will receive the largest allocation of $873 million to support repairs following Hurricane Helene. The storm damaged more than 9,000 sites across western North Carolina and forced over 1,400 road closures. The funding will help restore affected roads and bridges, including sections of Interstate 40 in Haywood County.

Hawaii will receive $81 million to address infrastructure damage from the Kona Low storms in March 2026, which caused widespread flooding across the state. Texas will receive $52 million for repairs following severe rainfall and flooding that damaged several bridges, including the FM 1431 bridge connecting Lago Vista and Marble Falls.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will distribute the funds through its Emergency Relief Program, which supports repairs to transportation infrastructure following major disasters such as floods, landslides, and wildfires.
