Pennsylvania will disburse $250 million under its 2026–27 budget to accelerate 79 road projects, including more than 400 miles of paving across 44 counties. The funding will allow the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to start scheduled work earlier and expand some projects.

The state plans to release a total of $775 million from its Motor License Fund over the next 18 months, beginning with this $250 million allocation. The funding supplements PennDOT’s anticipated $4 billion investment in projects going out to bid this year.

The state began construction on three projects in September. In Crawford County, they started paving six miles of Route 77 ahead of the original 2027 schedule. In Fayette County, crews are paving 10 miles of U.S. 40 between Fayette Spring Road and Flatrock Road in Wharton Township, six miles more than the previous plan included.

The third project covers Route 378 between U.S. 22 and the Hill-to-Hill Bridge in Bethlehem, Lehigh County. J.D. Eckman, Inc. serves as general contractor for the $12.9 million project, which PennDOT expects to complete in December 2027.
