PennDOT will invest $212 million this year across its Clearfield-based engineering district to advance 80 road and bridge projects in central Pennsylvania. The program covers nine counties and includes highway reconstruction, bridge preservation, resurfacing, drainage upgrades, and traffic safety improvements.
The investment will support work across Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin, and Potter counties. PennDOT plans to reconstruct or resurface more than 115 miles of highway, sealcoat 316 miles of roadway, and repair or replace 77 bridges.
Several major interstate projects will continue during the 2026 construction season. In Centre County, crews are advancing the high-speed interchange connecting Interstates 80 and 99 near Bellefonte. The $259.3 million project aims to reduce congestion along Route 26 and improve traffic flow between the two highways.
In Clearfield County, PennDOT expects to complete a $47.7 million preservation project along nearly 24 miles of I-80 later this year. The work includes roadway improvements and rehabilitation of six bridges between mile markers 97 and 120.
Additional projects scheduled this year include bridge replacements, highway restoration work, signal upgrades, slope stabilization, and resurfacing projects across the region. PennDOT also plans to begin utility relocation work ahead of a highway restoration project in Cameron County later this summer.
The agency said the regional construction program includes 16 projects carried over from previous seasons along with several new contracts beginning in 2026.
