Virginia has allocated $1.53 million to support infrastructure upgrades and redevelopment projects across key port communities in Hampton Roads. The funding will support projects in Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Newport News through the Port Host Communities Revitalization Fund.

The program will finance the renovation of industrial and commercial facilities and the repair of aging maritime infrastructure tied to port operations. The state designed the fund to modernize port-related assets and support economic activity in communities connected to maritime industries.

In Norfolk, the Norfolk Economic Development Authority will receive $500,000 to renovate five industrial buildings operated by Mil-Spec Abrasives. The upgrades will improve manufacturing, storage, and distribution capacity for industrial and marine materials.

The total funding comes from the Port Host Communities Revitalization Fund, which received $2.4 million in state funding for 2026.

The investments will improve port-related infrastructure, support small business growth, and strengthen maritime and industrial activity across the Hampton Roads region.
