The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $19.5 million in federal funding to Louisiana communities to support roadway safety improvements statewide. The funding comes from the Safe Streets and Roads for All program authorized under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The grants will fund safety action plans, implementation projects, and demonstration activities across multiple jurisdictions. Major recipients include Lafayette City-Parish, the City of Natchitoches, and regional planning agencies supporting the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. Several rural parishes and small municipalities will use the funds to develop comprehensive safety plans.

USDOT will distribute the funding directly to local governments and regional agencies. Projects will focus on reducing traffic fatalities, improving street design, and supporting safer travel for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency responders.
