The Federal Aviation Administration will reimburse $108 million for airfield upgrades at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport as part of the airport’s long-term expansion program.
The funding will support the Airfield Capacity Improvements Project, which includes new parallel taxiways, high-speed exits, and related airfield infrastructure. The upgrades will support construction of a second terminal concourse planned to open in the early 2030s.
The $108 million commitment comes through a letter of intent from the FAA. The funding will reimburse eligible construction costs tied to airfield improvements. Austin-Bergstrom has also secured approximately $96 million in separate FAA funding for the Concourse B and tunnel project.
Airport officials expect taxiway construction to finish in 2027, ahead of concourse development. Concourse B will add more than 20 new gates and connect to the existing Barbara Jordan Terminal through an underground tunnel.
Austin-Bergstrom designed its original facilities for 11 million annual passengers. Recent traffic has exceeded 21 million passengers per year, driving the need for expanded airfield and terminal capacity.
