Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport began construction on an $84 million connector road to improve shuttle service between the new terminal and facilities near the former terminal, including the economy garage, employee garage, and rental car center.
The project received $65 million in Federal Aviation Administration grants under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, $11 million from the state, and the remainder from the airport’s capital budget. Crews will complete the northern section by the end of 2026, and the airport will finish the entire project by late 2027.
Airport officials estimate that about 9,000 people use the shuttle service daily. The connector will allow buses to bypass Veterans Boulevard and Airline Highway, cutting travel times in half.
The project also positions the airport for future growth. Officials plan to link the road to a proposed Baton Rouge–New Orleans passenger rail line and anticipate a new terminal by 2031 to meet rising demand.
