US solar and storage development company, Strata Clean Energy LLC, began construction of its 150 MW/600 MWh Justice Energy Storage project in Arizona on April 17, 2025.
Located near Skyline Regional Park in Phoenix, Maricopa County, the battery energy storage system (BESS) will be capable of storing enough energy to power some 24,000 homes over four hours. The facility will be operated under a 20-year tolling agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS) signed in 2024.
The project secured its contract with APS in an all-source request for proposal conducted by the electric utility in 2023 to procure 1 GW of resources, including 700 MW of renewable energy.
The BESS will store excess renewable energy generated during the day and dispatch it during peak evening demand, thus improving Arizona’s grid reliability and helping it achieve its clean energy goals while supporting the economic vitality of the region.
Justice Energy Storage is planned to be put on-stream in April 2026.
