Union Pacific Railroad has partnered with Jaguar Transport Holdings to launch a short line rail service in Kansas City’s Central Industrial District. Under the agreement, Union Pacific will lease about 12 acres of land and four miles of track to Jaguar Transport, a transportation logistics company with operations in short line rail, warehousing, and transload services.
The arrangement allows Union Pacific to concentrate on fast, long-haul rail service from the Kansas City site, while Jaguar will provide short-haul service five days a week through its newly formed short line: the Kansas City West Bottoms Railroad.
Jaguar also owns a cold and dry storage warehouse adjacent to the site and is completing construction of a new transload facility, which will begin accepting train cars later this month.
