The Federal Aviation Administration has allocated $870 million to support airport infrastructure projects across 44 states and two US territories. The funding will support 339 projects that improve terminal facilities, airside infrastructure, passenger access, and airport safety. The grants come through the Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program, created under IIJA.
Major awards include $289 million for a new terminal access road at Los Angeles International Airport and $50 million to replace the terminal roof at Miami International Airport. Other projects will rehabilitate passenger boarding bridges at Akron-Canton Airport, expand the terminal at Charleston International Airport, reconstruct the runway at Sugar Land Regional Airport, and replace snow removal equipment at Juneau International Airport.
The AIG program supports airport planning, terminal modernization, baggage handling systems, runway rehabilitation, roadway improvements, and other critical infrastructure. Fiscal year 2026 marks the final year of the five-year, $14.5 billion program, which has funded airport upgrades nationwide since 2022.
